On the way into the jungle

The time has come: Jenny, Lucy and Yuki are heading into the jungle. There they want to plant trees with the Plant-for-the-Planet team. But it's not quite as easy as the girls thought. There are obstacles on the way to the jungle. And once they get there, there's still a lot of work to do. But see for yourself!

What Plant For The Planet gives back to nature

What does Plant For The Planet actually do in Mexico? First and foremost, we would say: planting trees and restoring ecosystems. But it's much more than that: Plant for The Planet gives something back in the name of the many people who donate. It is also a sign of our respect for nature that we humans give something back to nature.

Arrive to plant

Plant trees save turtles. Jenny, Lucy and Yuki arrive in Constitution, Campeche. This is where the headquarters of Plant of the Plante Mexico is located. Everything is organized and prepared there to be able to restore forests.

Oscar Verduzco is in charge of the activities on site. He organizes a tour of the camp for the girls.

A difficult path to freedom

The little lives don't have it easy. On their way to freedom, they must not fall victim to the birds. They can still be fished out of the water. That's why Jenny, Lucy & Yuki have to wait for dusk again. But then the big moment arrives: dozens of baby turtles make their way into the water to be rescued. But there is still a big hurdle to overcome. Algae are blocking their way!

Rescue for baby turtles

The next morning and Jenny, Lucy & Yuki are out again with their bucket. Will the girls be able to find and rescue more newly hatched baby turtles today? Suddenly there is great excitement. Birds are circling all over a certain spot on the beach. Dozens of baby turtles emerge from the sand. The newly hatched ones are quickly placed in the bucket.

The plan: PLANT TREES - SAVE TURTLES

Global warming also heats up the sand where sea turtles lay their eggs. But when the sand reaches a certain temperature, only girls hatch. For decades, almost only girls have hatched, which makes reproduction impossible in the long term. We spoke to Frithjof Finkbeiner,  President of Plant for The Planet USA.

Sea turtles, us and the whole planet

What is it about? Everything! About our planet. About all the animals. About us! About the last prehistoric creatures! They existed before the dinosaurs! But they cannot survive human made global warming, deforestation and global pollution. Sea turtles are threatened with extinction. How can we organize it so that we all have a future?

3

The only surviving

Planting trees is one of the few ways to mitigate global warming. Jenny, Lucy and Yuki search for newly hatched sea turtles right at sunrise. But they often fall victim to birds before they even reach the water. The girls search the entire beach, but only find dead baby turtles. Help came too late. But then Jenny, Lucy and Yuki discover a newly hatched baby turtle.

2

Search for living prehistoric creatures

Yuki, Jenny & Lucy try to find these prehistoric creatures. In Yucatan, Mexico. To do so, they have to go deep into the night to the coast of the Caribbean Sea. And then they appear from the sea: slow, majestic and looking exactly as they did 200 million years ago. Together with Yuki, Jenny & Lucy, we can all save these prehistoric creatures. But how?
